Here are a few tips to help you with the claims process:

  • Keep all receipts and bills for expenses incurred following the event (i.e. room rentals, meals, etc.).

  • If possible, take photographs of the damages; these will be very useful when you meet with your claims adjuster. 

 

Inventory of your property

When contracting home insurance, we strongly recommend that you fill out a form containing a complete inventory of your property as this will facilitate the claim process.  The Insurance Bureau of Canada has a form available which you can use to draw up the inventory of your belongings. We advise you to keep this form in a safe or at least in a location outside your home to ensure you can retrieve it in the event of a loss.
